HOW TO REACH:
Location of Ayun Fort Inn:
Half an hour short of Chitral town, on the road from Lowari is the diversion to the Kalash valleys. At this junction you are looking across into the lush green Ayun village. To enter Ayun, you cross the main river on a cantilever bridge, the road then moves through parts of Ayun village and the you start driving along a big irrigation channel this is a sign that you are near Ayun fort turning . As you drive along the channel for a 100 yards you take the first road on your right going up to Ayun Fort Farm and a panorama of the village. If you have missed this turning you will reach a Petrol Pump in 2 minutes who will give you direction.
The Road to Chitral:
The journey takes you approximately 8/9 hrs from Islamabad if you come on the Swat Motorway. 90% of your journey will be on paved/puka road. You pass through Chakdara, Timergera and Dir and then head through the Lowari Tunnel. The 30 min patch of road right after the Lowari tunnel is still the only patch on this journey that is still not paved. Once you cross this patch rest of your journey till Ayun will be on a mostly paved/puka road.
The overall road journey is long but it is a very interesting drive mostly along rivers and streams then climbing up the pass through forests and waterfalls not like the motorway. Our guests frequently now reach Ayun Fort even in their smaller vehicles but it is always recommended to bring a higher clearance vehicle to places up North if the option is available.
