Chitral lies in the north western corner of Pakistan. It covers about 7000 sq miles of area The Hindu Kush mountain range averaging 4500m and dominated by Tirich Mir (7787m) and Istora Nal (7327m) dominate the horizon , in-between lie fertile lush green valleys making a lovely contrast of the country side.. The mountains to the north of Chitral town are amongst the most spectacular in NWFP, easily matching any in the Northern Areas; a visit to Chitral is really not complete without at least a brief foray into this beautiful area. Awesome, Rocky Mountains twisted and eroded into fantastic shapes rear up on all sides, giving occasional glimpses of majestic snowy peaks beyond. The villages along the way appear as isolated oases of rich green irrigated farmland, contrasting strikingly with the surrounding barren rock.
